In many cases contaminated soil and groundwater can’t be removed from the contaminated area for ex situ treatment or heaped up for treatment in accumulations. Among high costs existing housings at and usage of the contaminated area prohibit these treatment processes.
In those cases in situ processes have been approved. With this technique the decontamination takes place in the ground itself. To stimulate the decontamination in situ oxidants and other nutrients are inserted into the contaminated area. By this means the natural degradation process through autochthon microorganisms is supported.
